About the College
Shri Siddhivinayak Mahila Mahavidyalaya, Karvenagar, Pune was established in 1990, by Maharshi Karve Stree Shikshan Samstha. It is the first higher education college of the Samstha with the objective of upliftment, emancipation and education of women. Since then, the college is committed to “Empowerment of women through education” which is the motto of the mother institute as well.Affiliated to Savitribai Phule Pune University, the College celebrated its silver jubilee in the year 2015-16.
Starting its journey with conventional courses in Arts and Commerce, the College expanded with an introduction of Post –graduate studies in Arts and Commerce in 2005 and BBA course in the year 2008-09. Being one of the well-known colleges for quality education, the college extended its horizons further by introducing Science in 2012 and Computer science in 2014. In tune with the globalization, the College has started post-graduation in Communication studies and Mass relations.And the number of the students expanded from 40 to nearly 3000.
The College has successfully completed the Third cycle of National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC), Bangalore in 2017 and moved from B in the first cycle to ‘A’grade in the third.
Character is a strength and the College aims at building the same through various curricular, co –curricular as well as extra –curricular activities.
Well qualified Faculty with its timely update in knowledge, skills and research is an asset of the College. They try to imbibe human, ethical and moral values, is another feather in the cap. The sound infrastructure,well -equipped laboratories, Digitalised Library with robust reference material and audio – visual aids, LCD overhead project fitted classrooms help to create learner –friendly environment.
Manilal Nanawati Vocational training institute, which is in the campus and is a sister concern of the College , offers various short –term courses such as Fashion designing, beauty parlor training, Networking, DTP, Tally, Soft Skills etc. that make the students self-employed. This institute also trains students in traditionally known women’s skills like Arts, Crafts, Cooking and Baking.
Service to the society should be an integral part of a student’s psyche. In order to inculcate the same the College runs a SPPU approved N.S.S. unit.
The girl students who are interested in the career in the Army can avail the N.C.C. facility through the College.
The Samstha has two homes for Senior citizen where the College conducts activities through the Extra Mural Board in sync with SPPU, thus giving a wider social connect to the students.
Accessible location well connected by local transport systems and the vicinity of the upcoming Metro are the additional advantages.
Earn and learn scheme of the Savitribai Phule Pune University as well as the one run by the Samstha, i.e., the mother institute ensures that no girl is deprived of education because of financial constraints.
Tejaswini, a state of art health club is another facility for the students on the campus.
BayaKarve Women Studies Centre, another sister institute provides Counseling for the students of the College.
A clean, hygiene- conscious “Suswadcanteen” looks after the gastronomical cravings of our young steck holders.
Home away from home
The College has access to two hostels in the premises which have all modern facilities, messand proper security system. Close attention and motherly caring of the Rectors and the Matrons is another salient feature of the College.
